Read to Your Babies
Early Literacy Education Campaign
Watonga Public Library is launching the Early Literacy Education Campaign in the Spring of 2005. Our goal with this project is to educate first time mothers on the importance of reading to their babies. They will receive an educational packet that will include the following:
THE
BABY BOOK—brought thoroughly up-to-date-with the latest information on
everything from diapering to daycare, from midwifery to hospital “birthing
rooms,” from child nutrition to infant development—THE BABY BOOK remains the one
must-have resource for today’s new parents.
In this perennially bestselling and encyclopedic guide, Dr. Bill and Martha Sears draw from their vast experience both as medical professionals and as parents provide authoritative, comprehensive information on virtually every aspect of care. THE BABY BOOK focuses on the essential needs of babies-eating, sleeping development, health, and comfort-as it addresses the questions of parents today.
WHITE
ON BLACK—It’s never too early to start kids reading. Even in infancy, young
eyes can begin to make connections between
images on a page and the real thing. White on
Black is an ideal first book, and one that will continue to fascinate the
very youngest readers as they grow. Exquisitely simple, solid white pictures of
everyday objects— a banana, a duck, a bottle— against a black background provide
high contrast for developing eyes. This wordless picture book encourages
caregivers to engage the child as they “read” together: “Oh look, a boat, that
looks like your bath toy doesn’t it”
PLAYTIME—uses
bold, full-color photography of everyday objects paired with clear, precise word
labels which have been carefully designed to
support children’s first phase of intellectual development. There is now much
evidence to support that reading with infants has a profound impact on a variety
of essential skills that are the basis for a lifetime of learning happiness.
This book is an ideal way to maximize babies’ potential while sharing the joys
of reading with parents and caregivers.
